INTRODUCTION TO FORAGING WORKSHOP
Venue: The Herb Garden, Naul, Co. Dublin Date: Saturday 13th April 2024, Saturday 25th May 2024
Are you interested in learning about foraging but don’t know where to start?
Are you afraid to pick a wild plant that you think is edible but you are not one hundred per cent sure that it is safe to eat?
Or maybe you can identify some wild plants but you don’t know where to start when it comes to harvesting and preparing wild food?
I am delighted to announce my new ‘Introduction to Foraging’ workshop’ that is designed specifically for beginners.
In this workshop you will learn how to identify and use some of our most common native Irish wild plants. There will be a strong emphasis on safety and on how to distinguish edible wild plants from their non edible counterparts.
Join me in my garden where I will teach you how to safely identify native Irish plants and herbs, with plenty of tips on using them to create tasty and nutritious wild food dishes, drinks and simple herbal remedies.
You will learn about the Forager’s Code, which encourages safe, respectful and responsible foraging. Safety is key so the focus will be on giving you the knowledge that will allow you to forage with confidence.
Everyone will receive a free photo identification eBook on native Irish edible and medicinal wild plants.
Native wild plants are an incredibly valuable and sustainable food resource, once they are foraged in a responsible manner. They are abundant and appear year after year to feed and nourish us without any intervention on our part. No cultivation, no chemicals, no food miles or no plastic packaging involved.
Unfortunately, the value of these plants is unappreciated by many, because the knowledge of how to identify and use them has been lost. I am genuinely looking forward to sharing my own knowledge and appreciation of nature’s bounty with you and to introducing you to the captivating world of foraging!
Some of the plants we will cover include:
- Nettles
- Dandelions
- Cleavers
- Ground ivy
- Herb Robert
- Daisies
- Elder
- Hawthorn
- Wild garlic (seasonal)
- Tri cornered leek (seasonal)
