FORAGING WALK & WILD FOOD LUNCH AT WHITESTOWN HOUSE

Venue: Whitestown House, Naul, Co. Dublin    Date: New dates TBC

whitestown house

I am delighted to collaborate with Aoife, Kelly and Hazel of Whitestown House to bring you a unique foraging and wild food lunch experience. An educational, informative and fun foraging session will be followed by a wild ingredient inspired cocktail and a delicious three course, wild food lunch in the beautiful, historic dining room.

On arrival you will be welcomed into the library for morning tea and Hazel’s homemade scones, while Aoife shares some of the fascinating history of Whitestown House and the estate. The house is not open to the general public, so this is a wonderful opportunity to visit this beautifully restored heritage property, learn about its history and explore the gardens.

After coffee, we will spend the morning exploring the estate grounds and learning about the native Irish seasonal plants and herbs that we find there. I will give you plenty of tips on harvesting and using them to create tasty and nutritious wild food dishes. We will focus mainly on the culinary uses of the plants, but we will also cover some basic information about their medicinal properties and how to use them to make simple herbal remedies.

Plant identification, safe foraging and sustainability is an important element of this workshop. You will learn about the Forager’s Code, that encourages safe, respectful, and responsible foraging. Safety is key, so the focus will be on giving you the knowledge that will allow you to safely identify edible wild plants and to have the confidence to use your new skills to create your own unique wild food dishes, drinks, and preserves.
